However, in order for students to know their organic, they must remember concepts from inorganic chemistry. I passed all my organic classes, and I understood everything based on common knowledge from inorganic chemistry. Also, it is very important to know the different vocabulary terms used to identify compounds and reactions. Organic chemistry is part memorization, but most of it is concept practice with terminology. Example, when memorizing names of different functional groups, naming of compounds, and reactions, it is better to memorize them by knowing concepts and why they happen, rather than what makes them. Concept is important, but practicing the concept will aid organic.
